🏠 How to Set Up a Smart Plug
A smart plug lets you control lights, appliances, or anything you plug in — right from your phone or voice assistant. Here’s how to set one up.
Step 1: Plug It In
Plug your smart plug into a wall outlet. Make sure it’s in a spot with good Wi-Fi signal.
Step 2: Download the App
Most smart plugs come with their own app (like Kasa, Govee, or TP-Link). Search for the brand’s app in the App Store or Google Play.
Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi
- Open the app and follow the setup instructions.
- Connect the smart plug to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (5GHz is usually not supported).
- Name your plug (e.g. "Living Room Lamp").
Step 4: Test It
Plug in a lamp or device, then use the app to turn it on and off. You can also set schedules or timers.
Step 5: Optional – Connect to Alexa or Google
Want voice control? Link the smart plug app to Alexa or Google Home. Then you can say things like, “Alexa, turn on the coffee maker.”
